Gap system
Particularly in termsof the gap, i.e. the distance between the disc and the wall of the process container, OTEC offers several unique systems which can be fine-tuned to the precise requirements of our customers. Low thermal expansion at the gap area means that very little water/compound mixture passes through, considerably reducing the processing time and eliminating the need to reset the gap.
- Ceramic/polyurethane gap system
This standard system from OTEC is suitable for the most common wet grinding applications. The ceramic-polyurethane combination prevents the disc from sticking or jamming in the gap area and thereby considerably improves process reliability and reduces maintenance. - Ceramic gap system
With this system the gap dimension can be set to an accuracy of 0.05 mm. This technology is preferred for dry finishing since it enables very find polishing granulates to be used, giving the best possible finishing results. - Zero gap system
For the wet finishing of very thin workpieces, the gap can be reduced to zero. This enables fine-grained abrasives such as quartz to be used withouth the workpieces getting trapped in the gap.

Process containers
The modular design enables each machine to have up to 4 process containers set up side by side. The container geometry is designed for optimum flow, considerably reducing physical impact on the workpieces and producing a high quality finish and better smoothing. In the case of wet finishing, a hollow shaft in the disc allows the water/compound mixture to drain off completely.

Operation
Speed, processing time, water/compound concentration, rinse cycles and all other important processing parameters can be adjusted by means of an easy-to-use menu navigation system using a Siemens touch-screen control unit (industrial version) or 2D controller (jewellery version) with the capacity to store up to 75 different processing programs.
